Imperial & Chaos Knight Commission Painting | Project Breakdown

Imperial or Chaos, Knights are one of the most commissioned models and armies I do. That’s great news, because they’re also some of my favorite pieces to paint. Since they are a frequent project of mine, I’ve devised this FAQ page of getting your Knights painted.

This breakdown covers my specific method for painting most knights. That being said, you still have plenty of say in the matter. Here’s what you can chose:

  • Frame
  • Armor Plate
  • Lenses
  • Basing

Most often than not, you can also chose the armor’s trim color (black, in the example above). You can also say you don’t know, don’t care or only pick certain colors and leave the rest of choices up to me.

Extra?

This FAQ is a one size fits most. Maybe you have extra specifications in mind? What if I want freehand or decals? Or a lot of weathering? What if I want a split scheme for my armor plates? Or hazard stripes? It will affect pricing slightly, but it’s all very possible.

Unassembled, Partly Built, or Fully Built?

Does it matter? Slightly. Is it a big deal? No. Here’s the difference between the three when it comes to your commission.

Fully Built

If you send knights that are fully built, it only limits the paint schemes slightly. Essentially, it means the frame of the knights and the trims will be the same color if you want to keep the same price.

For the Chaos Knight above, both the frame and the trims are silver. The hull color is metallic blue, but it could be any color you’d like, doesn’t change a thing. For the red Imperial Knights, the frame and trims are rust colored. This one’s hull color is red with heavy weathering, but again, the red could be replaced with any color, it wouldn’t change anything.

Partly Built

Partly built is the most cost effective and customizable option. In this case, partly built means the frame of model is fully assembled, and all the plates are left off. The frame and arms don’t need to be glued together for this, don’t worry. A lot of people leave the legs and torso separated for easy transport, and the arms either magnetized or removable. I’m not a monster that will force this upon you.

Don’t worry about getting your knight Ikea style at the end. I’ll put the plates on the knights after painting is complete, at no extra cost to you. Easier time for me painting the thing; less time assembling the model for you; everybody wins.

Unassembled

Want to save the hassle or building the Knights? You sure can, I’ll take care of it. Want me to magnetize the weapons on there? Also possible.

This service does require an assembly fee, but is really the complete key in hand service. A popular option to save shipping costs for this is to have your game store ship directly to me when you purchase the knights. You can also buy from one of my local store and just get me to pick them up. You do need to contact me about this beforehand, however.

Pricing

Price is broken down in the various types of Knights by size. There is a short list of fringe cases below as well. All prices are in Canadian Dollars, and include taxes.

Small Knights (Armiger / Wardog)

$60 Assembly
$90 Assembly with Arm Magnetization
$80 Painting
$95 Painting with additional arms (no matter how many options)

Medium Size Knights (Questoris / Despoiler)

$80 Assembly
$115 Assembly with Arm Magnetization
$175 Painting
$225 Painting with additional arms (no matter how many options) or Knight Abominant

Larger Size Knights (Cerastus / Dominus / Tyrant)

$100+ Assembly*
$160+ Assembly with Magnetization*
$200 Painting
$225+ Painting with additional arms (depending on models and options)

Special Cases

  • These prices all assume you’re getting more than one painted. Unless we are talking about 20+ knights, the bulk pricing discount is included.
Castellan and Valliant (and their chaos counterparts) that have the options all glued might affect the paint options and cost of the project.
  • All Resin and 3D printed parts and models are handled on a case by case basis
  • Abominant tails are push fit, not magnetized by default.
  • Building the Cerastus Knight Castigator is VERY time consuming and, as such, VERY expensive.
