Imperial Knight Army (With world’s Best bases)

One of the first larger project I took one when I got back into commission painting was this Imperial Knight army painted for my buddy James.

Canis Rex is not always easy to fit in with a whole army, because of his unique color scheme. My trick is to try to match as many colors as possible without deviating from the box art too much. In this case, this meant using the same gold trims and same bases (more on those later) and keeping the same blakc and silver colors, but on each their respective areas. So Canis’ silver armor is the same as the other knights’ silver frame.

At the time I was pretty adamant about delivering completed models and it bugged me when clients didn’t want the bases painted. I get it now, don’t worry. But these little jokes are also a great perk of painting models for my friends.

The front of the missile racks being magnetized is a real power move. I’ve painted close to a hundred knights, and played countless games with or against them, and I still couldn’t say which option is wich.

The Valiant is my favorite model from the knight’s range since its release. There’s something about a triple-barrel melta gun and a huge harpoon launcher that just feels right.

The Castellan is a close second in terms of favorites. Big robot with even bigger guns… I mean… c’mon. The huge plasma is also very fun painting-wise, because it makes the Castellan Knight stand out.
