I am a sucker for the holidays, and every year, I try to get paint at least one of the special Grotmas models.

The Red Gobbo’s Surprise was the 2023 model, and I got the chance to do two of them. Since they are pretty thematic pieces already, the scheme is already laid out for you.

The Christmas lights grappling hook is my personal favorite hidden gem on this piece.

It’s also a fun exercise on painting snow, since it is a big part of the model. I always find it harder to paint the snow that’s sculpted on a model than to just make your own mix and add it on top of whatever base you chose.

Clearly, in 2023 my photo setup was not super on point, or I was being very experimental with it. Much like busts, models like this are a fun change of pace where you just paint a fun model.
